Complex domains

Selected work.

I specialise in dense data and high-stakes flows where accuracy, auditability, and calm UI matter as much as speed.

01. Payroll Systems

Payroll: 200+ workflows, five patterns

Pay runs land to a legal deadline; an ambiguous screen turns into a wrong submission to the ATO. I led the UX reset of an enterprise payroll product mid-migration to cloud, landing five page patterns that now carry 200+ workflows and a single home for STP Phase 2 compliance.

Result

Faster, safer rollout

Abstract wireframe for enterprise payroll: three panels and a progress rail.
02. Workforce Management

Rostering: one system, infinite coverage configurations

Hospitals and retail run on rosters; a missed coverage rule lands as an understaffed ward or a queue at the till. I led the design of a multi-dimensional coverage rules system across department, role, location, skill, and time, with progressive disclosure so daily supervisors are not buried in tooling built for fifty-site estates.

Dual-mode interface shipped

Abstract wireframe for workforce scheduling: week strips and roster rows.
03. Practice Mgmt

Practice management: unifying a fragmented suite

I led UX strategy for an accounting practice suite where CRM, billing, workflow, documents, and compliance had diverged into separate products. The reset established one shared client master and a modular front-end approach so cross-app workflows could work as one system.

Problem

Fragmented five-app suite

Strategy

Shared client master + MFE

Result

Connected core workflows

Abstract wireframe for practice management: header, list lines, and document panel.
04. Design Ops

MCP servers: making UX governance machine-readable

AI can assemble screens faster than a design team can manually police them. I designed and built UX governance as MCP, turning markdown standards into a live rule set that engineers, designers, and agents can query from the same source.

Problem

UX governance at scale

Approach

MCP server architecture

Result

Single source of truth

Abstract wireframe for design ops: governed patterns exposed as machine-readable context.

Philosophy

Principles that hold at scale.

AI where it earns its keep

I use AI on the repetitive parts of delivery so more time goes to product architecture, edge cases, and fewer dead-end handoffs.

Governance that speeds teams up

At scale, design is mostly constraints. I wire custom context and rules into AI tooling so generated work stays inside the system instead of drifting from production.

Design as a budget line

I tie decisions to delivery: developer velocity, time to market, and less rework from ambiguous specs or mismatched components.

Leadership

Hands-on lead.

I still design and prototype; I also build the lightweight tooling and standards that help others move without breaking the product.

Mentoring through better workflows

I push AI for production grunt work where it is safe, then coach the team on critique, judgement, and user problems so craft time is not lost to pixel pushing.

Context people can work inside

As a lead I shape the environment: governance, shared libraries, and review habits that let squads go fast and shipping with confidence.

Roles and focus.

2022 to present

UI/UX Lead

The Access Group APAC · Perth

Design systems, IA, and validated prototypes with product and engineering. I integrate AI where it is safe: governed context and rules so assisted design and build work stays aligned with production patterns, which speeds iteration and cuts rework from ambiguous specs. I mentor designers across APAC on those workflows, and on critique and judgement for the work automation still cannot own.
